The Darwin Stokes
Hill Power Station project was the largest industrial demolition
project ever undertaken in the Northern Territory. The contract
involved the removal of asbestos insulation materials, demolition
and complete removal of the entire power station facility. The project
was undertaken on a fixed price and included the following:
- Removal of limpet asbestos insulation to eight steam boilers,
six turbines and associated pipework.
- Demolition and disposal of eight steam boilers, six turbines,
power station buildings and overhead cranes, underground services
and oil fuel storage facilities.
- Demolition of four 50 metre steel chimneys and two 80 metre
concrete stacks.
- Removal, fixation, encapsulation and disposal of highly toxic
flue dust.
- Dismantling of the Turbine Hall for re-erection at another
site.
