The Fisher Building
demolition project involved the demolition of an 8 level building
situated in South Australias largest university campus.
- Removal of sprayed asbestos and vermiculite insulation to
structural steel and slab soffit. This contamination existed
on 3 upper levels of the 2 building, comprising an area of over
1400m².
- The demolition of an 8 level building. The top 3 levels consisting
of concrete and structural steel and the lower levels being
concrete reinforced.
The constraints placed on the demolition and
asbestos removal included:
- Removal of asbestos adjacent an active demolition area.
- Demolition of an 8-level structure adjacent two new buildings,
the closest of the two being only 2.8 metres away.
- Protection scaffolding and filtration of main air conditioning
intakes to the new mathematics building.
- Working within a very confined site area and minimising the
impact of the work on the existing activities taking place at
the University.
- Liaising with University and Royal Adelaide Hospital over
noise management as both facilities run 24 hrs a day, 7 days
a week.
